Local Magazine Publisher Reaches 10-Year Milestone

May 4, 2006

Northbrook Publishing, producer of custom trade publications based in New Berlin, Wisconsin announced its 10-year anniversary today. The company has partnered with corporations such as Sherwin-Williams, Caterpillar, Peterbilt, British Petroleum and others to develop company-sponsored magazine programs that deliver highly targeted, industry-specific messages. Northbrook currently produces 12 titles with aggregate annual circulation totaling nearly 4 million.

“Our growth and stability as a custom publisher is attributable to three main factors,” said Northbrook President, Pete Sobic. “First, we have a loyal, committed group of clients with whom we have established lasting partnerships. Second, we have a very loyal, committed group of employees. In fact, our core group of associates has an average tenure of nearly eight years and many have been with us since the beginning. And thirdly, we have benefited from a unique association with our parent company, Randall-Reilly Publishing Company. Our shared vision of building a world-class custom publishing organization has never wavered, and their significant resources have allowed us the freedom to keep our focus on servicing clients.”

Estimated at $48 billion, custom publishing is a robust and evolving market.
“The lines are blurring between client, supplier and customer (reader),” Sobic says about the past decade in business. “There used to be sharp lines of division, but that’s become an outdated business model. We’re all in this together and now, more than ever, if our customers’ customers are successful, then we’re successful.”

Looking ahead to a future where clients seek to develop global brand consciousness and expand their reach, Sobic is optimistic.

“Clients now have unlimited access to information and unlimited sourcing options, but they desire to work with a limited number of suppliers,” he said. “Our growth potential is literally limitless. More and more companies are recognizing the brand-building and sales and marketing potential of creating their own publication. While Northbrook will continue to focus on industrial and business-to-business markets, we are only limited by conflicts of interest within a given industry. Beyond that, the sky’s the limit.”

A division of Randall-Reilly Publishing Company, LLC, Northbrook Publishing provides customized programs in numerous industries for major corporations, including several Fortune 500 companies. Headquartered in New Berlin, Wis., Northbrook is dedicated to the development, management, production and delivery of high-quality, company-sponsored publications.
